INES Innovation Center

When innovation meets design

Hello, design junkies!

Today we take you on an architectural journey to Concepción, in Chile.

The INES innovation center, a new university where we would all wish to study, is being created in the capital of the Bíobío region, by Pezo Von Ellrichshausen, a Chilean art and architecture studio that was born in 2002.

Innovation is at the core of this project, with shapes never seen before, the design of the university is totally unheard of in the industry. Seeing it from the outside, the structure looks simple, consisting of pillars and columns.

The interior structure is composed of circular and square shapes that are overlapping without following a precise rule. Playing with different sizes and shapes, it creates a unique environment.

A red-colored cement is chosen to convey a sense of domesticity.

Natural and dark wood is used for the interior part of the offices and creates a minimal environment thanks to the cabinets that disappear into the walls.

The Chilean university is structured to facilitate relationships among the individuals who are part of it because of its open and circular internal structure and the pathways that provide access from one floor to another.

In opposition to the circular lines, the architect has created a contrast composed of more squared and closed forms because, besides the relational dimension of the university campus, the need to establish boundaries and create private environments is recognized.
