A1043 - A Paris-based Design studio celebrating lighting, furniture and home decor pieces. A1043 has a range of remarkable art objects by several forgotten or less known contemporary designers, which makes every piece very unique and interesting. Furniture
The Molitor by Groupe Nemo is hyper-cool and look at that color-palette! It’s a chaise longue that, when upside down, turns into an object to be used for abdominal training; Philippe Starck is also present at Studio A1043 and guess what, we’re crazy about his Cara Leggera Romantica Chair. Although it is a radically different style, Romantica is ultimately a true homage to the Leggera chair by Gio Ponti; the Living/Fruit Table, a creation of Daniel Weil & Gerard Taylor; and the Nid d’aigle shelf by Pierre Sala, a perfect example of design at the start of the 80s in France.
Lighting
How funky is this one? Philippe Starck’s Easy Light, referring to it’s easy use in all kinds of circumstances; the colorful Sparta lamps by an atypical creator, namely Denis Santachiara; the Capri suspension lamp by Bruno Munari, an amazing talent for turning nothing into something; the 1950s Italian lamp, by an anonymous designer; and the Falene table lamp, a wonderful creation of Piero de Martini, sold as a kit, it requires input from the purchaser. Falene comprises a set of independent elements assembled following an instruction manual.
Home Deco
A1043 is also known for its outstanding home deco. Such as the bold orange-pink Plaisance tray by Nathalie du Pasquier. It’s representative of a form of self-sufficiency typical of objects in the 1980s when function played a secondary role; George J. Sowden’s Rockley vases. They’re characterized by their great visual strength and sculptural appearance playing with light and shadows; David Dubois’ Protected Vases, particular cause of its gorgeous contrast between the soft lilac tones and the intense yellow; the Bambù vase by Enzo Mari, made of PVC. Playing with production methods rather than focussing on the formal object aspect, that’s Mari’s greatest strength as a designer.
Our Nr° 1
The designer that stood out big time is Alessandro Mendini. His furniture is characterised by it’s freaky shapes and omg-color combinations! Our top 3 of his designs consists of the Bandiera desk, both gorgeous in red & pastel blue and green & pastel pink; and The Miraggio chair, a great fit for the Bandiera desk.
