Reimagining Heritage: Objekt Architecten’s Lamat
A Modern Transformation
of a Classic Rural Home
—
Objekt Architecten has breathed new life into a classic detached house in Wichelen. The firm's project, Lamat, showcases the perfect blend of traditional architecture and contemporary design, creating a unique and inspiring space.
The exterior retains its original charm, with the restored crow-stepped gable serving as the focal point. However, the true transformation lies inside. The removal of the living room ceiling unveils a dramatic double-height space, bathed in natural light.
A circular mezzanine, crafted from on-site cast concrete, adds a sculptural and modern touch to the design. This feature not only elevates the aesthetics but also provides a stunning vantage point over the living area and kitchen.
Inside, the attention to detail is remarkable. A large tropical planter acts as a natural divider between the kitchen and living spaces, while distinct flooring materials—green Topcer tiles and parquet—help define the areas visually.
Lamat is a shining example of Objekt Architecten's expertise in revitalising historic buildings. This project redefines how a timeless contemporary space can emerge within a classic shell, offering both functionality and elegance.
