A 18th century palace transformed

and revived as a theater - restaurant

The French architect Julien Labrousse turned an abandoned 350-year-old palace into a restaurant with many surprises when you walk in. Located in the oriental part of Lisbon, you can explore Palácio do Grilo, whilst staying for a dinner that is severed by the performers of the night. It’s a theatre restaurant, where you’ll get a cultural experience you’d never see coming.

D. Pedro de Bragança was the first Duke of Lafões. He built this palace and called it the “Dreamer of Stone”. Where every room had a different principle and design that was explained in his unpublished work known as “The Magic Notebook”.

After years of being untouched, Julien decided to turn it into a space for entertainment and dining. He made the entire scenography and furniture for the project primarily using eucalyptus.

In the palace, you will discover beautiful sculptures and decorative artefacts that are displayed on oak boards that create stepping stages, as well as other pieces hung in large frames from Oliver Urman who directs the performances conducted at the palace.

Some creative pieces we love are the pale wood that is shaped into pieces such as the diamond-backed chairs, or the Banquet-scale dining tables that are supported by faceted legs that peek through the tops.

The restaurant is located in the middle of the live theatre where every member of the staff is an actor or performer ready to surprise you.

It has also been classified as a public interest monument since 2011 that is now open from lunch to late at night for everyone from the family to join, even the kids have their own menu to choose from.
