The celestial chairs of Bohinc Studio

Furniture with modern functionality

and contemporary elegance

Since the World is Round is Bohinc Studio’s chair collection of stellar themes. Inspired by lunar and planetary perfect geometric movements, the pieces Lunar, Orbit and Solar are variations of a deconstructed love and understanding of the physics thats sustains both the universe and a single chair.

Constructed from thin square rod, the chairs are elegant, minimal and delicate. They are finished in galvanised steel and wool fabrics by Kvadrat. We just can’t take our eyes off them!

The Lunar Chair is distinguished by two enveloping crescents for armrests, and a smaller backrest which, like a moon, circles its planet on an orbit of its own. The Orbit Chair features dramatically inclined circular armrests that hold the round back above the larger circular seat, suggesting a moon in orbit. And the Solar Chair has an asymmetric frame and its reflecting circles suggest the rising and setting of the sun.

Together, they prove that poetry and rigorous form can create both beauty and functionality.

Lara Bohinc, the studio’s owner, is a Slovak designer who begin her career studying Industrial Design and soon moved to London in order to specialise in Metalwork and Jewelery. After her graduation, she won the British Fashion Council’s New Generation Award and spent many years being a design consultant for brands like Montblanc, Gucci and Cartier.

Her life-long love for the art of metalwork and design led her to found Bohinc Studio, where she continues to explore form and materiality through technical, hand-based work of excellence for all of her creations.

Bohinc’s ability to create work of everlasting beauty is rooted in her familiarity with industrial processes.

Lara’s furniture work have called our attention, but the designer’s creative range goes far beyond that. She’s also famous for her jewellery collections and has amazed us with her candle holders, bowls, lamps and more.

Each project seems like a new opportunity to explore and experiment with a different material. Ceramic, marble, precious stones and, of course, metal: on their finest quality, all is allowed!

If you’re also in love with Lara’s creative world and want these pieces to be part of yours, contact the studio or pay them a visit!

You can find furniture & other pieces at Bohinc Studio’s London showroom and online.
